Women's T&F Claims Third Straight Outdoor NJAC Title

MAHWAH, N.J.- The TCNJ women's track and field team claimed their third consecutive Outdoor NJAC Championship on Sunday with a total of 239.5 team points, best the second-place Profs of Rowan by 33 points. The conference championship marks a sweep of the 2022-2023 season as the women seized NJAC titles in cross country, indoor and outdoor track.
 
The Lions had five athletes take first place in their respective events along with eight second-place finishes and three third-place finishes to seal the deal on Sunday.
 
Eliza Bruncaj highlighted once again for TCNJ as she took first in the 100 hurdles and the 400 hurdles with times of 14.32 and 1:01.23 respectively. Also receiving All-NJAC honors in both events was Victoria Purritano, as she took second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 400 hurdles with times of 14.38 and 1:03.37.
 
Purritano also received All-NJAC honors for her efforts in the 4x100-meter team that took first on Sunday. She was joined by Ashlyn MacLure, Maria Grill and Valandra Riggins to run a blazing time of 46.66 seconds.
 
Riggins also took home a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash final along with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash final, crossing the finish line at times of 12.05 and 24.76.
 
 
Grill almost claimed her second 400-meter run crown of the year, but was still able to take second with a time of 56.50 seconds.
 
Cassidy Quinn and Emily Hoegler led the way in the women's 5000-meter run, taking first and second in the event. Quinn took first with an impressive time of 18:50.91 while Hoegler was shortly behind and finished second with a time of 19:05.04.
 
Hoegler also added another second-place finish to her resume in the 1500-meter run, recording a time of 4:53.51.
 
For the jumpers, Kayley Harnett and Zoe Iovino highlighted the Lions as Harnett took first in the high jump (1.57 meters) and Iovino took second in the triple jump (10.89 meters)
 
For the throwers, Kerri McCarthy brough home some hardware on Sunday with a second-place finish in the shotput with a mark of 12.61 meters.
 
Allison Uhl was the final Lion to be named to an All-NJAC team as she took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.47.
 
The TCNJ women's track team looks to build off of this and take it into next week at the AARTFC Regional Championships at Susquehanna University starting on Wednesday, May 17th.
