Women's Track Dominant at Ithaca Quad Meet

ITHACA, N.Y.- The TCNJ women's track team claimed first out of four at the Ithaca Quad Meet on Saturday afternoon. Their 61.75 team points was 23.25 points ahead of second place Ithaca.
 
Freshman Rukiyat Daranijo was electric in the 400-meter run on Saturday, seizing first place with a time of 1:01.01. Amanda Demko and Kelly O'Grady rounded out the top three in the race with times of 1:01.04 and 1:01.15 respectively.
 
Eliza Bruncaj was the top runner in the 200-meter dash at the Quad Meet as she took first with a time of 26.34 seconds.
 
The Blue and Gold held three out of the top four spots in the 3000-meter run with Salini Iyer, Savannah Hodgens and Molly Bossdorf finishing first, second and fourth consecutively. Iyer finished atop the competition with a time of 10:55.01, Hodgens was about 20 seconds behind at 11:16.67 and Molly Bossdorf followed at 11:29.20.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of O'Grady, Bruncaj, Daranijo and Demko flew past the rest today, claiming first-place with a time of 4:04.90.
 
Jessica Reilly was outstanding at the weight throw on Saturday, edging out the competition and taking first with a mark of 15.57 meters.
 
Kerri McCarthy also had a great weekend, throwing personal bests in both the shot put and the weight throw. Her 12.91 meters in the shot was good enough for second place while her 14.71 meters in the weight throw took fourth.
 
Kayley Harnett won the high jump at Ithaca after leaping over the bar of 1.53 meters on her first attempt. Sarah Scepkowski tied for second in the event, clearing the same height on her third and final try.
 
Freshman Lia Malave leapt her way to first in the long jump, winning by a tenth of a meter with a distance of 5.25 meters.
 
Another first year in Emily Turschmann finished second in the triple jump after jumping to a mark of 10.36 meters on her first attempt.
 
In the 800-meter run, TCNJ had three of the top five runners in Naesha Gadie, Alex Grivas and Katherine Rice. Gadie took second, running 2:24.41 while Grivas was right behind at 2:25.87. Rice's 2:33.04 was enough for fifth place.

The Lions return to the track next Friday at George Mason for the Patriot Games Multi starting at 4 PM.
