COLLEGE PARK, MD. – Highlighted by a golden performance from sophomore
Beth Evaldi, the TCNJ women's swimming and diving team had a solid first day of competition at the inaugural NJAC Championship meet throughout Thursday afternoon.
The Lions closed out day one with the top team score of 177 points. Rounding out the top three behind them are Montclair State in second with 145 and the third place United States Merchant Marine Academy with 126.
Evaldi showed why she stands a step above the competition by winning the team's and her first individual NJAC Championship in the 3-meter dive with a top score of 391.05. Also having a superb afternoon was fellow sophomore
Melody Lin, who was awarded bronze on the podium after posting the third best score of 296.70.
In the pool, the blue and gold swam to a pair of seventh-place relay finishes. In the 200 medley relay, the Lions quartet of
Colleen Scanlon,
Lilliana Kuball,
Bridget Cleveland and
Mary Kate Owens clocked in at a new season best mark of 1:49.36.
The 800 free relay team of
Sarah Burton,
Mackenzie Wall,
Katie Mazzacco and Cleveland followed up with a season-best time of 7:56.27.
