Champs! Women's Track Claims Sixth Consecutive Indoor NJAC Title

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.- The TCNJ Women's track and field team hoisted up their sixth consecutive indoor NJAC on Monday night with a grand total of 198 team points, 60 points ahead of second-place Rowan.
 
The Lions had three individual champions, two relay champs and were all over the leaderboards, picking up crucial team points in every single event.
 
Eliza Bruncaj earned the first individual championship for the Lions on Monday in the 60-meter hurdles, running a personal best 8.99 and beating the competition by nearly two tenths of a second. Individually, she also placed third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the high jump, running 25.72 in the 200 and leaping 1.52 meters in the high jump.
 
TCNJ had four out of the top five place winners in the high jump, including champion Kayley Harnett, who cleared the bar set at 1.62 meters. Taking third on the podium was Sarah Scepkowski, who leapt over 1.57 meters while Abigail Pfaff took fourth with a mark of 1.52 meters.
 
Senior Julia Dakwar highlighted the Blue & Gold in the pole vault, claiming first after her clearance of 3.05 meters. Isabella Mraz finished third after her successful try at 2.60 meters.
 
Molly Bossdorf, Cameron Ruffini, Lauren Barker and Salini Iyer propelled themselves to a championship in the distance medley relay after a season-best time of 13:02.47.
 
The 4x400 Relay team of Kelly O'Grady, Amanda Demko, Samantha Magin and Erin Hanlon rounded out the championships with a first-place effort of 4:03.89.
 
Senior Emily Hoegler picked up eight team points for TCNJ after her second-place finish in the 3000-meter run of 10:36.53. Katherine Rice crossed the finish line about 15 seconds after Hoegler with a time of 10:51.10.
 
Freshman Kate Gsell had a terrific outing in the Long Jump on Monday night, leaping a personal best 5.11 meters to claim second for the event. Lia Malave earned fourth and five team points for the Lions with her jump of 5.06 meters.
 
Kerri McCarthy and Edith Gonzalez were strong in the shot put, taking the second and third spots on the podium. McCarthy threw 12.80 meters while Gonzalez was shortly behind with a mark of 12.22.
 
A trio of freshman in Emily Turschmann, Gsell and Malave all earned team points in the triple jump as Turschman led the three, earning a spot on the podium with a jump of 10.42 meters. Gsell and Malave took fifth and seventh respectively with distances of 10.35 and 10.21 meters.
 
Naesha Gadie was the top Lion in the mile, finishing third at 5:16.44. Iyer and Bossdorf aided TCNJ with fifth and eighth-place finishes.
In the 5000-meter run, Cassidy Quinn led the pack for the Blue & Gold, running to a third-place tune of 18:37.40. Sophomore Savannah Hodgens gave TCNJ two team points after a seventh-place finish at 19:05.87.
 
Mackenzie Burke had an impressive night in her debut conference championship, taking fourth in the 60-meter dash and eighth in the 200. Both of her times of 7.98 and 26.36 seconds were personal bests.
 
The Lions will head back to Staten Island on Friday for the Fastrack Last Chance Meet, starting at 1 PM.
