Women’s Track and Field Wraps Up Successful Weekend Hosting TCNJ Invitational

EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's track and field team concluded a stellar weekend of competition while hosting the annual TCNJ Invitational at the TCNJ Track and Field Complex from Thursday to Saturday.

TOP-FIVE TIMES
  • In the 100m hurdles prelims, junior star Eliza Bruncaj showed out with the second fastest qualifying time of 14.49 seconds, which set a new season best in the process. However, she was ultimately scratched from the finals and did not compete.
  • The 100m dash timed finals saw sophomore Cameron Ruffini take first with her time of 13.14 seconds.
  • Sophomore Kelly O'Grady crossed in fourth place for the 400m at a season-best time of 59.94 seconds.
  • In the 800m, senior Katherine Rice set a new lifetime best mark of 2:21.87 to take second place in the event.  
  • Senior Cassidy Quinn won the 1500m after clocking the fastest time of 5:00.69. Also in the top-three was fellow senior Emily Hoegler, who crossed in third with her time of 5:05.04.
  • Closing out the meet, the 4x100 meter relay A-team finished second with a time of 49.52 seconds.
STANDOUTS ON THE FIELD
  • Junior Jessica Reilly had a big day in the throws that was highlighted with a top-place finish in the hammer throw after tossing a season-best mark of 47.62m (156-2). The junior also placed fifth overall in the discus throw with her best throw traveling 34.42m (112-11). Reilly took eighth in the shot put with her best throw going 11.22m (36-9.75).
  • Freshman Kaydence Fischer was the runner up in the discus throw after launching a top mark of 36.75m (120-7) for second.
  • Placing third overall in the shot put, junior Kerri McCarthy launched a new season-best mark of 12.24m (40-2) with her top throw. McCarthy also finished second in the hammer throw after setting a new personal-best mark of 45.48m (149-2).
  • Other notable finishers in the hammer throw included senior Edith Gonzalez placing third with her new personal best of 43.62m (143-1), and junior Emily Diszler taking sixth after setting a new lifetime best toss of 40.99m (134-5).
  • The high jump saw senior Kayley Harnett place third after clearing a mark of 1.52m (4-11.75), and junior Abigail Pfaff take fourth after successfully clearing 1.47m (4-9.75).  
  • Freshman Kate Gsell took fourth in long jump with her best leap of 5.02m (16-5.75).
  • In the pole vault, the freshman duo of Emerson Dirk and Maya Scannell each finished top-five, Dirk took fourth after clearing 2.85m (9-4.25) on her first attempt, while Scannell cleared the same mark on her third and final attempt to eventually finish fifth.
MULTI-FINISHERS
  • Competing in the Heptathlon throughout Thursday to Friday, the TCNJ duo of Sarah Scepkowski and Erin McGauley each secured top-ten finishes, with Scepkowski placing third with 3778 points and McGauley ninth with 2806 points.
UP NEXT
The Lions continues their outdoor season next weekend by competing at the Widener Invitational from Friday to Saturday. Friday's start time is set for 3 PM, while Saturday will be an early 9 AM start to the competition.
