Women's T&F Grabs Four Silvers on First Day of NJAC Championship

PHILADELPHIA - The TCNJ women's track and field team picked up four silver medals in a strong all-around performance on the first day of the NJAC Indoor Championship at UPenn on Saturday.
 
The Lions ended the night in third place in the team standings with 58.5 points, behind Rowan (67.5) and Stockton (60) in a tight race at the top.
 
MEDAL WINNERS
  • Sarah Scepkowski was runner-up in the pentathlon with 777 points; she placed second in the 60-meter hurdles (9.66), the high jump (1.51 meters), and the shot put (8.77 meters) as well as third in the long jump (4.66 meters) and fourth in the 800 (2:48.56). It was her second career medal at the indoor championship
  • Eliza Bruncaj placed second in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.22 meters, the third career long jump medal for last year's champion
  • Bruncaj also led off the second-place 4x200-meter relay; she was joined by Mackenzie Burke, Erin Picklo, and Rukky Daranijo to finish in 1:43.95
  • Maya Scannell earned her first career conference medal with a huge personal-best clearance of 3.30 meters in the pole vault, enough to claim silver and a tie for third on the program's all-time performance list
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES – TRACK
  • Bruncaj (9.29) was second in the 60-meter hurdles prelims; she'll be joined in Sunday's final by teammates Burke and Scepkowski, who tied for third at 9.50 seconds
  • Molly Bossdorf, Erin Hanlon, Alex Grivas, and Ava Biemuller finished fourth in the distance medley relay (12:40.47)
  • The Lions had a trio of place-winners in the 5000 meters with Daly in fifth (19:01.68), Savannah Hodgens in sixth (19:14.48), and Alyssa Maybeck in seventh (19:17.49). Daly and Mayback's times were new personal records.
  • Burke just missed the finals in the 60-meter dash, where her personal-best time of 8.01 seconds landed her in ninth place in the prelims
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES – FIELD
  • Burke ran for her season's best (8.01) and Petra Doherty set her new personal record (8.18) in the 60-meter preliminaries.
  • Isabella Mraz placed fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 2.60 meters
  • Scepkowski was eighth in the long jump (4.81 meters), where Erin McGauley was just short of placing with a ninth-place mark of 4.69 meters (season-best)
UP NEXT
  • Women's track and field will be in Philadelphia for the rest of the weekend for the NJAC Indoor Championships, resuming at 4 P.M. on Sunday, Feb. 23.
