4/12/2025 3:54:00 PM

Box Score EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team toughed out an impressive win over No. 36 Rochester on Saturday, stinging the Yellowjackets, 4-3, indoors at the Rec Center.

The Lions (9-5) extended their winning streak to five matches with their first victory of the year over a top-40 team.

DOUBLES
  • The teams split the top two doubles courts by lopsided decisions, with Zoey Albert and Shruti Mannan picking up a huge 6-2 victory over a strong duo in Josephine Libby and Katie Yang that reached the ITA Northeast Championship semifinals in the fall
  • The doubles point came down to the number three court, where Elizabeth Ring and Gabriella Robinson came from 3-1 down to steal a 6-4 victory over Lilly Caldwell and Neha Dania
SINGLES
  • The doubles point in hand, the Lions went to work strengthening their advantage. Mannan handled Yang 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3, and Robinson took care of Sanjana Karnam by a 6-3, 6-1 count at No. 4 to stake the blue and gold to a 3-0 advantage
  • Rochester got on the board with Libby's 6-2, 7-6 (3) defeat of Albert in the number one flight
  • Aira Abalos clinched the win with a huge effort at No. 2 singles, coming back from 5-3 down in the first set and 6-2 down in a tiebreaker, saving a six-pack of set points for a thrilling 7-6 (10), 6-2 triumph over Maya Bravo
  • The Yellowjackets won in straight sets at fifth and sixth singles
NOTES
  • The victory was TCNJ's first over a top-40 team this season; the Lions previously defeated No. 60 New Paltz and lost to then-No. 40 RPI and then-No. 58 Haverford
  • Albert and Mannan are a perfect 14-0 in dual matches at No. 1 doubles
  • Abalos' win in singles was her 130th career victory; she is just the 10th player in program history to reach that number
  • TCNJ's 4-3 win was its first of the season that did not come via sweep
UP NEXT
  • The women's tennis team heads up to Stevens for a non-conference match at 12 p.m. Sunday
