McCarthy, 4x400 Relay Claim Regional Titles

5/15/2025 8:41:00 PM

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Kerri McCarthy won the hammer and the 4x400 relay team took home top prize as the TCNJ women's track and field team roared to a fourth-place finish at the AARTFC Championships at Williams College.

Eliza Bruncaj and Mackenzie Burke, meanwhile, put themselves into position to qualify for nationals in the 400-meter hurdles with season-best efforts for the Lions, who logged a third top-5 regional finish in the last four seasons.

ON THE TRACK
  • The quartet of Rukky Daranijo, Burke, Brenna Omert, and Kelly O'Grady had the highlight of the day on Wednesday, winning the 4x400 relay by well over a second and a half with a time of 3:48.71; that mark is less than a half-second off their season-best clocking, which ranks 27th in Division III
  • Bruncaj (1:01.88) and Burke (1:01.94) went neck-and-neck in third and fourth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles, and the times were of massive importance – Bruncaj's season best moved her to a tie for 15th in Division III, while Burke's personal best puts her in a tie for 20th, and both could read their names listed as NCAA qualifiers in the event
  • O'Grady (2:14.54) and Omert (personal-best 2:16.77) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, to give the Lions a pair of place-winners in the 800
  • Cassidy Quinn placed sixth in the 10,000 meters after completing the event in a career-best 38:31.48, more than 30 seconds better than her NJAC-winning time
  • Daranijo returned on Thuesday to place in the 400-meter dash, just missing a PR by .06 seconds to land in eighth with a time of 56.98
  • Molly Bossdorf clocked a career-best time of 11:31.28 in the steeplechase, eclipsing her 4th-place time from the NJAC Championships by 20 seconds
IN THE FIELD
  • McCarthy's toss of 52.16 meters on her third attempt was a career-best and enough to claim a regional championship in the last appearance of her career; her top mark places her 25th in the nation, likely just shy of NCAA qualification
  • Sarah Scepkowski finished fourth in the heptathlon with 4171 total points, bolstered by third-place efforts in the 100-meter hurdles (15.35) and high jump (1.53m) as well as a fourth-place showing in the shot put (9.37m); Samantha Magin was 11th with 3885 points
  • Jessica Reilly placed seventh in the hammer throw (49.96m)
