SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y – The first day of the ITA Northeast Regional did not end until well after 10:00 PM, but the TCNJ women's tennis team performed excellently despite the delays.
Six Lions were involved in the main draw, and five of them went through to tomorrow's second round. TCNJ also had two players in the B draw, both of whom advanced. Full and updated results for the entire competition can be viewed via this
link.
In singles,
Eleni Dakos advanced in dominant fashion, dropping just a single game against Scranton's Nora Pencek.
Zoey Albert also defeated her opponent (Vassar's Kirby Madison) in two sets, 6-3, 6-3. The final Lion to advance in singles play was
Gabrielle Brideau, who dispatched Hamilton's Muhan Cui in a third-set super tiebreak, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
In doubles, two TCNJ pairs prevailed in their first-round matches. Dakos partnered with
Gabriella Robinson to defeat a team from St. Lawrence University, 8-4, while Albert and
Shruti Mannan eased by a duo from RIT, 8-1.
Despite a valiant effort in singles,
Elizabeth Ring was unable to advance to the second day of competition. Ring's first-round match with Ithaca's Alys Pop involved two tiebreakers (one in the first set and another in the third-set super tiebreak), but it was the latter player who was able to move on. Ring also narrowly fell in doubles, as she and Brideau lost to Skidmore's Ginevra Muratori and Amelie Gonzalez, 6-8.
Finally, two other Lions competed in the B draw:
Claire Hardy and
Anusha Perinkolam. Both players lost their respective singles matches, but still remain in contention in doubles. The pair will play their first match of the weekend tomorrow.
