SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – On day two of the ITA Northeast Regional, the TCNJ women's team wrapped up their regional run after all Lions players suffered losses in the tournament.
Eleni Dakos advanced all the way to the singles quarterfinals match, starting with a comfortable 8-3 victory over St. Lawrence University's Elisa Iuri. Dakos prevailed again in a very tight match in the round of 16 against Vassar's Ananya Krishnan, 7-5, 6-7 (8-10), 6-3. In the next match in the quarterfinals, however, Dakos fell to Skidmore's Ginerva Muratori.
Like Dakos,
Zoey Albert also made it to the quarterfinals in singles before being eliminated. Her day began with an 8-3 win over Union College's Megan McCusker, followed up by a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Sophia Yang of NYU. In the quarterfinals, however, Albert lost to St. Lawrence's Angelica Aksdal-Jansen, 4-6, 3-6.
The third Lion entering the second day of singles play,
Gabrielle Brideau, fell in the second round to Vassar's Iris Li, 3-8.
In doubles, both remaining TCNJ teams won their match in the second round (the round of 16). The team of Albert and
Shruti Mannan defeated a team from NYU, 8-5. Then, Dakos and
Gabriella Robinson squeezed by a duo from Skidmore College, 8-7 (7-0). In the next match (the quarterfinals), however, both teams dropped out. Albert and Mannan lost 2-8 against a team from RPI, while Dakos and Robinson bowed out to a team from NYU, 4-8.
In the B draw,
Anusha Perinkolam and
Claire Hardy competed in doubles, but they were defeated by a partnership from Vassar.
With regional play now concluded for the TCNJ women's tennis team, the Lions have now finished up their fall season and will look ahead to the spring slate of competition.
