EWING, N.J. – The Lions women's tennis team kicked off their season in dominant fashion, dropping only one of their 10 matches against Stevens on Friday.
To get things started, the pairing of
Zoey Albert and
Shruti Mannan prevailed 8-6 to give the Lions their first of eight doubles wins in the TCNJ Kickoff Tournament. In the next match, the team of
Eleni Dakos and captain
Gabriella Robinson won their match by the same scoreline. Following that match,
Marcella Warner and
Elizabeth Ring swept their opponents, 8-0. Those three teams won again later in the day to account for six total wins.
Logging her first collegiate win was rookie
Ella Hardy, who was paired alongside sophomore
Gabrielle Brideau in an 8-2 win. The Lions' eighth and final doubles win came via the pairing of
Mandy Fleischmann and
Claire Hardy, who defeated their opponents 8-5. Also making her collegiate debut was freshman
Caitlyn Co, but she and senior
Megan Pongrac were unable to prevail in their lone match.
In the final match of the tournament, Brideau defeated Aliona Heitz in singles, 6-2, making it nine total wins on the day for TCNJ.
TCNJ will look to build on this positive performance for next weekend, when they host Haverford and NYU in the Lions Tournament on September 13 and 14.
