EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's swimming team started off their new season with a win, taking first place in ten events and the top three spots in four to prevail over the Drew University Rangers.
Drew won the meet-opening 200 medley relay through their A relay, but the Lions took the first two individual events of the afternoon through
Sarah Mandy in the 1000 freestyle (11:13.31) and
Katie Mazzacco in the 200 freestyle (2:00.72).
Tammy Leng (2:00.87) and
Emma Vindigni (2:05.18) took second and third in that event, and the Lions would again sweep the top three spots in three other events before the meet was done (100 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 50 butterfly).
After Mazzacco's win in the 200 freestyle, Drew responded with three consecutive wins in the 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, and 100 butterfly. Following that,
Lilliana Kuball won the 50 freestyle (25.88) to make it a tightly contested meet going into the meet's first intermission. Out of the break, Mazzacco picked up her second individual win of the meet in the 100 freestyle (56.19). Drew rattled off a pair of wins after that, but TCNJ would take first place in the final four swimming events to help secure the team victory. Mandy (500 freestyle, 5:28.91), Kuball (50 butterfly, 28.69), Leng (200 IM, 2:19.94), and TCNJ's A relay (200 freestyle relay, 1:42.11) were the winners in those last four races.
The Lions' divers were also in action in the dual, competing in both 1-meter and 3-meter.
Hannah Simons topped the list in the 1-meter (209.85), followed closely by rookie
Lilly Mailliard (207.38) and
Jenna Ringel (200.03) in the top three. Ringel herself took first place in the 3-meter (232.95), with Simons placing second (215.40) and rookie
Saira Sandhu taking third (197.03) in the event.
TCNJ will be back in Packer Hall for a home meet on Halloween, where they will face off against NJAC foe Ramapo in a dual. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
