PHILADELPHIA, Pa. & NEW YORK, N.Y. – Since 1990, the TCNJ women's shot put record stood at 13.183 meters. That record, set by Sue Piekraz 36 seasons ago, was broken this weekend by
Allison Lavin. TCNJ women's track and field team competed at two events over the weekend, with the majority of the team heading to the Widener Indoor Classic and a few to the NYU DIII Invitational.
WIDENER INDOOR CLASSIC
To break the program record, Lavin won the shot put event by throwing 13.65m—the 14
th-best mark in the country so far this year. In doing so, she broke Piekraz's 1990 mark of 13.183 meters. Lavin also posted a top-ten finish in the weight throw, placing in ninth place (14.77m).
Sarah Scepkowski also performed well in the field, as she placed ninth in the high jump (1.55m) and eighth in the 60m hurdles prelims. In the hurdles, Scepkowski made the finals by posting a time of 9.08—a new personal best and a top-50 time in DIII this year.
In the 400m,
Kelly O'Grady (8
th, 58.58),
Kelsey Thomas (11
th, 58.76),
Brenna Omert (14
th, 59.17), and
Brenna Casais (25
th, 1:01.93) all made the top-25. With those times, O'Grady set a new season-best time while Thomas equaled her lifetime-best mark.
Rukky Daranijo (13
th, 25.95) and
Petra Doherty (23
rd, 26.28) both made the top-25 in the 200m. To close the weekend, O'Grady, Omert, and Daranijo combined with
Mackenzie Burke to finish third in the 4x400 (3:56.93).
For the distance runners,
Alex Grivas led the way in the mile, finishing 15
th with a personal-best time of 5:17.39.
Ava Biemuller finished a few spots behind in 18
th (5:19.32). The Lions also logged a trio of lifetime bests in the 3000m, thanks to
Teagan Walker (15
th, 10:37.15),
Ella Daly (24
th, 10:44.82), and
Savannah Hodgens (28
th, 10:49.52).
NYU DIII INVITATIONAL
At the Armory, TCNJ collected a pair of top-ten placements in the pole vault.
Emersen Levins led the way in eighth (2.95m), and
Isabella Mraz placed just behind her in ninth (2.80m).
