Malave Claims Gold, Women's T&F Third After Day One of NJAC Outdoor Championships

MAHWAH, N.J. – The TCNJ women's track and field team collected three medals on day one of the NJAC Outdoor Championships, placing them in third place behind Rowan and Stockton with the vast majority of finals to take place tomorrow. The Lions' medals came in the field: a gold in the long jump and two bronzes in the javelin and pole vault.

IN THE FIELD
  • Lia Malave earned her first career conference title in the long jump, where she leapt 5.49m on her fifth attempt. This is the junior's time on the NJAC podium, as she placed third in the conference indoor championship meet in two events.
  • Allison Lavin won the bronze medal in the javelin (39.40m), claiming her first career NJAC medal in the event.
  • Emersen Levins placed third in the pole vault (3.30m), claiming her first career NJAC medal.
 
ON THE TRACK
  • Lucia Garcia-Beltran posted the fastest qualifying time in both the 100 (12.02) and 200 (24.56), advancing to the finals and qualifying for regionals in the process.
  • Kelsey Thomas (2nd, 57.31), Rukky Daranijo (4th, 58.51), Brenna Omert (7th, 59.12), and Cameron Ruffini (8th, 59.50) each qualified for tomorrow's 400 final. Thomas and Daranijo also qualified for regionals with their times.
  • Thomas also qualified for the 200 final tomorrow (3rd, 25.26).
  • Mackenzie Burke (1st, 1:03.31), Casey Noonan (3rd, 1:04.83), and Hailie Zimmerman (8th, 1:08.91) each booked their spots in the final of the 400 hurdles.
  • Savannah Hodgens punched her ticket to the regional meet, placing fifth overall in the 10K (40:17.81).
 
HEPTATHLON
  • Sarah Scepkowski leads the pack of four heptathlon competitors, having collected 2,657 points across the first four events. Samatha Magin is currently third with 2,158 points, while Zimmerman is fourth with 1,802.
