Glassboro, NJ---For the second straight week, TCNJ's football team has knocked off a nationally ranked team. This week the victim was No. 17 ranked Rowan University as the Lions won 10-7. Now 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC, TCNJ has won four straight games. Rowan University drops to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Kicker Matt Dalessio (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee)  kicked an 18 yard field goal with five seconds remaining to give The College of New Jersey a 10-7 victory over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Friday night.

The Lions gained possession on the Profs' 12 yard line with 2:12 left to play after linebacker Joe Spahn (so. Burlington, NJ/Florence) forced superback Rob Richardson (sr. Hackensack, NJ/Garfield) to fumble. Defensive end Joe King (sr. Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) recovered the ball to set up the winning drive.

The College of New Jersey improves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Rowan has a 3-2 overall record and a 1-1 NJAC mark.

TCNJ was led by its defense, which limited Rowan to 173 yards of total offense (54 passing, 119 rushing). Defensive lineman Marc Fabiano (jr. Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) recorded 13 tackles. King followed with 11 stops, including three for a loss (-18 yards), 1.5 sacks (-13 yards), one fumble recovery and two pass breakups. Spahn and defensive back Dave Fontoura (jr. Roseland, NJ/West Essex Reg.) added nine and eight stops respectively. Defensive back Andrew Larkin (sr. Hamilton Square, NJ/Notre Dame) and linebacker Nicholas Steffner (sr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater) each had one interception. Larkin returned his pick 82 yards for a touchdown.

Running back Dan Dornacker (sr. Jersey City, NJ/Brick Twp.) rushed for 50 yards on 15 carries. He added 66 yards receiving on four catches. Quarterback Chris James (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) threw for 117 yards on 14 completions in 25 attempts.

Rowan held TCNJ to 117 yards passing and 78 yards rushing. Safety Kelvin Bellamy (sr. Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) posted 11 tackles, including two for a loss (-20 yards) and one sack (-16 yards). Linebacker Andrew Yezzi (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) contributed with 10 stops and one tackle for a loss (-2 yards). Safety Mike Barone (so. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) intercepted one pass.

Richardson carried the ball 22 times for 105 yards. Quarterback Tim Hagerty (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) completed five of 15 pass attempts for 54 yards and one touchdown. Wideout Val Terebizh (so. Fort Lee, NJ/Fort Lee) had two receptions for 24 yards and one TD.

Rowan went ahead 7-0 at 13:02 in the second quarter on a 20 yard touchdown pass from Hagerty to Terebizh. Barone's pick gave Rowan the ball on the TCNJ 14 yard line. Hagerty connected with Terebizh two plays later. Larkin's 82 yard interception return tied the game up at 7:33 in the fourth period.

Rowan hosts NJAC opponent Buffalo State College on Saturday, October 13 at 1 p.m. The College of New Jersey is at William Paterson University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
