Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey's men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon in TCNJ's Aquatic Center. The Lions swept the Ducks to improve to 2-0 on the young season, while both Stevens squads drop to 1-1.
TCNJ's women's team won 172.5-89.5, while the men won 153-106.
TCNJ's rookie
Leah Varvaro (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) was a triple winner taking the 100 butterfly in 1:00.78, the 200 backstroke in 2:15.85, and the 100 backstroke in 1:01.57.
Freshman
Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville) was a double winner as well with a first in the 50 freestyle (24.67) and the 100 freestyle (55.30). TCNJ's sophomore
Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) had a strong performance on the day as she won the 500 freestyle in 5:12.09. She won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:50.36 as well and took second in the 200 butterfly in 2:13.51.
TCNJ also won the 200 medley relay in 1:52.44 behind the work of Varvaro, sophomore
Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), freshman
Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), and Hofer. The Lions wrapped the meet with the win in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:42.46 behind the efforts of Pierce, rookie
Melissa Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra), Molloy, and Hofer.
Sophomore
Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) was a double winner with a first in 2:30.14 in the 200 breaststroke and a 1:09.19 in the 100 breaststroke.
Senior
Stacy Delehanty (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) won the 200 individual medley in 2:18.28, while rookie diver
Emily Ingram (Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) won the meter event with her performance on 341.55.
