Lancaster, PA…The College of New Jersey's women's swimming squad posted its fourth win on the season as they defeated Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday. The Lions defeated the Diplomats 124.5-80.5 victory. Both Lion women's teams is a perfect 4-0, while F & M drops to 0-2.
TCNJ's rookie
Leah Varvaro (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) just missed hitting the school record in the 100 backstroke as she took second in 1:00.87.
She was also the lead off swimmer on the Lions' winning 200 medley relay team that had a time of 1:51.96 behind Varvaro, sophomore
Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), rookie
Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), and freshman
Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville).
Senior
Stefanie Rashti (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) won the 200 freestyle in 2:02.13, while classmate
Sara Casciano (Hewitt, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) took second in 2:03.28. In the 500 freestyle Rashti took third in 5:29.00. Morgan captured the first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.16.
Hofer was the winner in the 50 freestyle in 25.29 and the 100 freestyle in 56.14. Junior
Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) won the 200 individual medley in 2:16.78. Freshman
Courtney Fuhro (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) took second in 2:18.34.
Pierce won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.61 and was part of the Lion's first place 200 freestyle relay team that recorded a time of 1:42.17 in the event. On the relay were junior
Ashley Robb (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Collyer, Pierce, and Varvaro.
TCNJ returns to action on Sunday, November 9 for a match-up at Southern Connecticut State University in a 2 p.m. meet.
