New Haven, CT…The College of New Jersey's women's swimming and diving team was in action on Sunday at Division II Southern Connecticut State University. The women suffered their first loss of the season, dropping a 156-142 decision and are now 4-1 are 4-0 on the year.
Freshman
Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville) picked up three wins on Sunday, but it was not enough as the Lions fell to the Division II Owls. Hofer captured the 100 freestyle in 54.64, and was part of the team's first place 200 medley relay and the winning 400 freestyle relay team.
On the 200 medley relay with Hofer were rookie
Leah Varvaro (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township), sophomore
Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), and
Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) as they posted a time of 1:53.52.
Combining on the 400 freestyle relay which posted a winning time of 3:39.82 were Pierce, Varvaro, freshman
Melissa Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra), and Hofer.
Pierce won the 50 freestyle in 25.13 and a second in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.03. Hofer took home a first in the 100 freestyle in 54.64 and Hessler took third in the event in 56.72. Hessler also finished in third in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:09.42 and added a third in the 500 freestyle in 5:27.73. Hofer took third in the 200 freestyle in 1:59.92. Varvaro added a second in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.60 and a second in the 200 backstroke in 2:19.10. Morgan won the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.77 and took a second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.03.
Junior
Stephanie Seto (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) picked up second in the 200 butterfly in 2:19.18, while senior
Stefanie Rashti (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) took third in the race in 2:19.19. Seto added a third in the 200 backstroke in 2:21.95.
Rookie
Emily Ingram (Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) took a second in the women's three meter diving with her performance of 208.40 and picked up a third in the one meter board with a score of 190.90.
Junior
Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) picked up third in the 200 individual medley in 2:18.18.
TCNJ returns to action on Friday, November 21 for a road match-up at Division II Bloomsburg University in a 5 p.m. dual meet.
