Doane nets six goals as Lions roll past Eastern, 19-1

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women's lacrosse team kicked off the home portion of the schedule in impressive fashion as the Lions rolled past visiting Eastern University by the score of 19-1 on Tuesday.

The fifth-ranked Lions are now 4-0 on the season, while Eastern slipped to 2-3.

TCNJ scored the first six goals of the game with senior Karen Doane (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) getting half of those tallies.

The Eagles scored their lone goal 6:34 into the game as Jessie Basch (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) scored on a free-position shot.

The Lions closed out the half with five consecutive goals making it an 11-1 game at the break.

In the second half, TCNJ added nine more goals with eight different players scoring.

Doane paced the Lions with six goals with freshman Alison Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon) scoring three goals and setting up two others. Senior Toni-Anne Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex) also recorded a five point night with two goals and three assists. Junior Rachel Gordon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) contributed with three goals and Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) both picked up a goal and an assist.

Earning the win in goal for the Lions was Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) as the senior finished with three saves.

In goal for the Eagles, Kimberly Campbell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) made 12 saves.

The Lions are home again on Thursday, March 27 hosting Ursinus College in a 7 p.m. start, while the Eagles return home to play Gwyedd-Mercy College on Saturday.
