Women's swimming & diving opens 2009 with a 132-91 win over CW Post

Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey's women's swimming and diving team hosted Division II C.W. post in the Lions' first dual meet of the 2009 half of the season. The Lions would come away with the 132-91 win and are now 6-1 overall, while the Pioneers drops to 4-4.

The Lions would open the day with a victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.57 behind the efforts of rookie Leah Varvaro (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), sophomore Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), freshman Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) and rookie Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville).

In the 1,000 freestyle event, TCNJ's freshman Melissa Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) picked up the first with her time of 10:45.93. Another first went to TCNJ's sophomore Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) as she captured the 200 freestyle in 1:57.20.

In the 50 freestyle, Hofer took a second with her time of 24.62 and a second in the 100 freestyle in 54.43. Junior tri-captain Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) took third in the 200 individual medley in 2:17.40. Pierce would pick up second in the 100 butterfly in 59.43, while Varvaro took a second in the 100 backstroke race with her time of 1:02.91.

Molloy captured the 500 freestyle race with her performance of 5:13.63, while Hessler took second in 5:17.46 for the Lions. Morgan won the 100 breaststroke competition in 1:09.44, while Lion competitor, freshman Courtney Fuhro (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) took second in 1:11.53.

TCNJ's freshman diver Emily Ingram (Easthampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) won the one and three meter events with her performances of 249.52 and 226.95, respectively.
TCNJ would add a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:42.78 as Lion newcomer sophomore Danielle Dilts (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), junior Ashley Robb (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Collyer and Pierce would combine.
