TCNJ drops heartbreaker to Ramapo in NJAC action

Ewing, NJ –The College of New Jersey men's basketball team hosted Ramapo College on Saturday afternoon in a NJAC contest in Packer Hall. Ramapo College would post the 71-60 NJAC win to improve to 12-8 overall and 5-4 in the NJAC, while the Lions drop to 8-11 overall and 4-5 in the league. The home loss for the Lions marks just the second time in eight outings they have fallen in Packer Hall as they are now 6-2 in Packer Hall this year.

Ramapo would lead 39-29 at the break as junior guard Andre Kenny (Jersey City, NJ/Dickinson) would pace his squad with 15 points after making 7-of-11 shots from the floor. He finished with a game-high 23 points after shooting 11-18 from the floor.

TCNJ's junior Aaron Syvertsen (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) connected for nine first half points after making three treys, while junior guard Jay Frank (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) added eight first half points. Frank would finish with 16 points, while Syvertsen netted 15 points after making five three-pointers along the way.

TCNJ would not go away and pulled within three points, down 46-43 at 12:40, but the Roadrunners would rally and take a 57-52 lead with 6:12 to play as they would make the most of second chance baskets. Syvertsen would hit a trey with 5:25 left to play to narrow the lead to two, 57-55. Kenny hit a jumper and gave his team 59-55 lead with four minutes to play. Seniors Tim Wesley (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) and Kevin Findlay (Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic) would make layups on the team's next two trips down the floor before a layup by sophomore Steven Siracusa (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) Lion basket, giving them a 63-57 lead with two minutes remaining. Findlay would go to the line with 1:27 left as the Lions were over the limit and he made both of his one and one attempts to give Ramapo a 65-57 lead.

Findlay went to the line with 1:15 left and made both free throws as his team watched their lead grow to 10 points, 67-57. Wesley made his two free throws at 52.6 to give RC a 69– 57 lead.

Findlay and Wesley would both tally 11 points, while freshman Davian Plunkett (Paterson, NJ/Paterson Kennedy) added a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Roadrunners.

TCNJ returns to action on February 4 when they travel to Valley Forge Christian College for an 8:00 p.m. non-conference, while Ramapo College hosts Rutgers University-Newark on February 4 at 7:30 p.m.
