Glassboro, NJ…The College of New Jersey's women's swimming and diving team defeated their hosts, the Profs of Rowan University on Saturday to earn the 2008-09 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship in both sports. The 2008-09 season marked the return of swimming and diving as a league sport.
TCNJ's women's team posted a 205-92 win over Rowan to improve to 8-2 overall and finished with a perfect 4-0 in the league as they won the NJAC championship for the ninth time in league history and the first NJAC championship since the sport was suspended as a conference sport following the 2002-03 championship.
Sophomore
Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) broke her own school record as she won the 1,000 freestyle race with a time of 10:36.81. She also posted the winning time in the 500 freestyle race in 5:13.15.
TCNJ would win both the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays at the meet. On the winning 400 medley relay were freshman

Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield), freshman
Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), and rookie
Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville) as they combined for a time of 4:08.20. The foursome of freshman
Melissa Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra), Molloy, Hofer, and Pierce were victorious after recording a time of 3:45.38.
Hofer picked up a win for the Lions in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:59.98 and the 100 freestyle in 54.86, while Varvaro added the win in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.38. Morgan added a win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.18 and the 200 breaststroke as well in 2:29.19. Hessler was a winner in the 200 butterfly with a performance of 2:12.91. Pierce added a win in the 50 freestyle event in 25.23 and the 100 butterfly in 1:00.44.
Junior tri-captain
Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) took first in the 200 individual medley race with a time of 2:16.52 helping the Lions to wins in all but one event on the day.
TCNJ's freshman diver
Emily Ingram (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) won the one meter event after posting a score of 227.60 and won the three-meter board event with her performance of 228.10.
