Montclair, NJ … The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving opened their 2009-10 season with a solid victory, defeating New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Montclair State University 151-86.
After finishing 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the NJAC a year ago, the Lions (1-0, 1-0 NJAC) got off to a hot start. Junior Danielle Dilts (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and sophomore Traci Hofer (Millvile, NJ/Millville) each registered a pair of first-place finishes. Dilts won the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 2:00.29 and also touched the wall first in the 500-yard free finishing in 5:28.23. Hofer showed her versatility winning the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.61) as well as the 100-yard freestyle (56.07).
Junior Danielle Morrone (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle race with a time of 11:27.89, junior Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.15), and junior Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) claimed a win in the 200-yard butterfly with a finishing time of 2:14.78. Freshman Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) won her first collegiate race with a 2:33.72 finish in the 200-yard breaststroke.
The women's team is back in action next Saturday, October 31 hosting their first meet of the season against Ramapo at noon.
