Meet Results
Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey men's and women's swimming and diving teams stormed past Franklin and Marshall College on Friday night in Packer Hall. The women's team downed the Diplomats 127-74 to remain unbeaten while the men's team coasted to victory by a score of 133.5-71.5
Women's Team
Junior
Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) paced the Lions (5-0, 2-0 NJAC) with two first-place finishes in individual events and tacked on another win contributing to the 400-yard medley relay. Molloy won the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:57.76 as well as the 500-yard free finishing in 5:14.99.
Sophomore
Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) qualified for an NCAA 'B' cut by three-one hundredths of a second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.47. She also contributed to first-place finishes in the 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard free relay.
Sophomore
Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville), freshman
Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park), freshman
Kristin Wikoff (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional), and junior
Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield High School) also won multiple events. In individual events, Hofer won the 50-yard free (24.82), Shangle took first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.47), Wikoff won the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.64), and Morgan placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.64).
Men's Team
The men's swimming team won their fourth meet of the 2009 season. Led by triple-winners
Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) and
Mike Vernoia (Hillsborough, NJ/Immaculata), the Lions (4-1, 2-0 NJAC) dominated the waters from the onset as they placed first in 10 of the 11 meet events.
Medvecky contributed to the 400-medley relay first-place finish and the 200-yard freestyle relay. He also won the 500-yard free finishing in 4:45.77.
Vernoia won the 100-yard free with a time of 48.84 and placed first in the 200-yard free finishing in 1:47.27. Junior
Joe Tseng (East Hanover, NJ/East Hanover) earned a pair of first-place finishes racing for the 400-medley relay winner and taking first in the 100-yard backstroke (55.36).
Senior
Myles O'Connor (Los Angeles, CA/Santa Monica J.C.) also was part of the 400-yard medley relay team that placed first and won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.82. Freshman
Evan Paulan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) placed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a winning time of 54.23.
Sophomore
T.J. Burns (Clarks Summit, PA/Abbington Heights) and
Billy Cavallo (Vineland, NJ/Cumberland) led the way for the Lions in the 1 and 3-meter diving events.
The men's and women's swim teams return to the lanes tomorrow (Saturday, November 14) swimming individual events at the Princeton Invitational at Princeton University.
