Ewing, NJ... The College of New Jersey swimming and diving team spent Saturday's autumn afternoon in the pool as they stroked past their rivals, the Owls of Southern Connecticut State to victory.
With a winning score of 168-126, the women continue to boast an undefeated record of 4-0, while the men handed the Owls their first loss of the season, improving their record to an impressive 3-1 with a score of 164.5-121.5.
Women's Highlights
Sophomore Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) had an outstanding meet as she took first place in four races. She proved her versatility by winning the 100 yard butterfly (58:67) and both the 50- and 100- yard freestyle (24:37, 53:76) in addition to being on the winning 200-medley relay team.
Another member of the winning 200 medley relay, Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) just missed the NCAA B cut by .69th of a second in her 100- yard breaststroke victory.
Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) was another Lion to have a big meet, winning three freestyle events. In the 500- yard and 1,000- yard frees she clocked in at 5:18:87 and 10:49.94 respectively. She also anchored the 400- yard medley relay team to victory with a time of 3:47:53. The other team members were Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville), Melissa Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra), and Danielle Dilts (Tom River, NJ/Toms River North).
Men's Highlights
Joe Tseng (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) had a huge meet winning four events. He took first in the 100- and 200- yard backstroke with times of 54.51 and 2:00.02. He also touched the wall in the 200- yard IM in 2:00.55 to win. Lastly, he was a member of the 200- yard medley team, along with Myles O'Connor (Santa Monica, CA/Santa Monica J.C.), Adam Schneider (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), and Tom Medvecky (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway).
Medvecky made the NCAA B cut in the 200- yard butterfly and just missed it in the 100- yard. Mike Vernoia (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) also made the NCAA B cut in the 200- yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.72 while O'Connor achieved the NCAA B cut in the 100- yard breaststroke clocking in at 58.34.
