New York, NY... Competing for the first time in 2010, The College of New Jersey men's indoor track and field team started the new year in style boasting numerous qualifying marks for championship events at the New York Gotham Cup held at the 168th Street Armory.
TCNJ excelled in the field events with a host of athletes finishing in the top 10 of their respective events. Sophomore
Colin Gold (Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) was second in the unseeded pole vault as he cleared a height of four meters. In the triple jump, freshman
Steve D'Aiutolo (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) bounced his way to a distance of 13.45 meters to finish in sixth place.
The Lions had two top-10 finishers in the shot put as senior
Martin Brown (Verona, NJ/Verona) in seventh with a heave of 13.37 meters and
Alexander Necovski (Watchung, NJ/Watchung Hills) placed eighth at 12.90 meters.
Junior
Thomas Conroy (Norwood, NJ/Regis) was fifth in the weight throw as he boasted an ECAC qualifying distance of 15.40 meters.
In the 400 meters, TCNJ added two more ECAC marks as junior
Jule Brooks (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) was 13th and was the top Division III finisher with a time of 49.27 seconds. Junior
Kyle Gilroy (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford Township) ran a time of 50.19 seconds adding the second ECAC mark in the race. Gilroy also had a strong showing in the 60-meter hurdles finishing in sixth place in 8.44 seconds.
Senior
DeShard Stevens (Jersey City, NJ/James T. Ferris) ran an ECAC time of 1:05.45 in the 500 meters to place 10th.
TCNJ performed well as a team in the mile with two runners shining in the unseeded event and another in the seeded race. Sophomore
Ian Boyle (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was ninth in the seeded race with a time of 4:25.71, while junior
Kyle Roos (Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway) was eight in the unseeded event (4:29.24) and freshman
Andy Gallagher (Newfoundland, NJ/West Milford) was ninth overall (4:29.50) after winning his heat.
