Meet results
New Haven, CT ... The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team squared off against one of its toughest opponents on their out-of-conference schedule and left Southern Connecticut State University with a 168.5 to 129.5 victory.
The win is the third straight for the Lions (3-0, 2-0 NJAC) in the 2010-2011 season.
Junior Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) had a sensational meet winning three individual events and contributing to a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Pierce won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.63, the 100-free in 53.54, and the 100-yard butterfly touching the wall in 59.44.
Pierce teamed up with junior Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville), sophomore Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park), and freshman Ashley Conroy (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) in the 200 medley to win the event posting a time of 1:51.15.
Hofer also had a terrific meet winning the 200 free (1:58.58) and placing second behind Pierce in the 100 free posting a time of 54.87. She also joined Shangle, Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East), and junior Melissa Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmrya) to win the 400-freestyle relay.
Molloy continued her dominance in the distance events winning the 1000-yard free in 10:45.36 and 500-free in 5:11.91. Conroy has a great opening month to her rookie season winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.49 and placing second in the 200 back finishing in 2:12.45.
Freshman Sabrina Lucchesi (Columbus, NJ/Notre Dame) placed second in the women's 1-meter diving event with a score of 262.80 and gained four more points with another second place finish in the 3-meter event posting 254.69.
TCNJ remains on the road traveling to Lancaster, Pa. to compete at Franklin and Marshall College next Sunday, November 14 at 2 p.m.
