Women's swimming dominates C.W. Post

Sophomore Jenny Zavoda won the 200-freestyle event.

Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey women's swimming team won 10 of 12 individual events and both relay races as the Lions dominated C.W. Post 185-77.

It was the first meet in over a month for TCNJ (5-0) and they returned from the break in impressive fashion.

Senior Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East), junior Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), sophomore Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park), and freshman Ashley Conroy each won a pair of individual events, while junior Melissa Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) and sophomore Jenny Zavoda (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) also tallied first-place finished for the Lions.

Molloy won the 1000 -yard reestyle event in 10:52.81 and earned her second victory of the day in the 100-free finishing in 53.49. Pierce took firsts in a pair of sprint events winning the 50-free (24.27) and the 100-butterfly (58.13).

Shangle bested the competition in the 100-breaststroke in 1:07.18 and the 200-breast (2:27.94). Shangle, Pierce, and junior Traci Hofer (Millville, NJ/Millville) teamed up to win the 200-medley and 200-free relays. They won the opening 200-medley event in 1:51.17 and the closing 200-free relay in 1:39.18.

Conroy continues her exceptional rookie season winning both backstroke events. She posted a time of 1:00.95 in the 100- and 2:14.92 in the 200-yard back. Conroy also raced with the winning 200-medley relay team.

Hessler touched the wall first in the 200-fly in 2:13.31 and Zavoda took top honors in the 200-free with a winning time of 1:59.82.

There was excitement in the diving competition as transfer Danica Roskos (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) broke two program records competing in her first meet as a Lion. She posted a score of 319.88 in the 1-meter diving event and 323.25 in the 3-meter. Both events were six dives.

TCNJ returns to competition next Saturday when they host New York University at 2 p.m. at the Aquatic Center.
