Waterford, CT … The College of New Jersey women's cross country team placed fourth overall out of 17 teams competing at the Connecticut College Invitational held at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Ct.
The Lions were led by junior
Cathy Goncalves and sophomore
Megan Flynn (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) as the pair posted identical times of 22:55 in the 6k event. Goncalves placed 12
th out of 211 runners. Flynn finished 13
th overall as TCNJ's duo finished just 10 seconds off the winning time of 22:45 registered by Stefanie Braun of Plattsburgh State.
Junior
Rachel Morris (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) raced to a 25
th place finish in the event with a time of 23:22. Sophomore
Anginelle Alabanza (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was right behind Morris, crossing the finish line in 23:35, which earned her 28
th place out of the 211 competing.
Senior
Alyssa Bannon (Spotswood, NJ/Bishop Ahr) ran a time of 23:32 in the race to finish 33
rd overall. Classmate Katie Nestor was the next Lions runner to place, taking 47
th with a time of 24:06.
TCNJ will compete in the Haverford College Invitational next Friday, October 21. The meet is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start. The following weekend, the Lions will vie for their 16
th consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference title at the 2011 NJAC Championships held at Richard Stockton College on Saturday, October 29.
