Lions streak comes to an end at West Chester tri-meet

West Chester, PA … The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team suffered defeats to foruth-ranked Johns Hopkins University and Division II West Chester University in a tri-meter held at West Chester.
 
The losses brought an end to the Lions (5-2) streak of 17 consecutive dual meet wins. The run began in late January of 2010, a span that lasted nearly two full years.
 
TCNJ won both diving events. Sophomore Sabrina Lucchesi (Columbus, NJ/Notre Dame) took first in the 1-meter event, posting a score of 278.18. In the 3-meter, junior Danica Roskos (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) took top honors with a finish 282.23. Lucchesi finished second tallying 275.93.
 
Senior Laura Pierce (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) had another outstanding day in the pool. She collected a pair of first-place finishes in the 50- and 100-freestyle events. Pierce led the pack in the 50 with a time of 24.34. She duplicated her efforts in the 100-free with a finish of 53.07.
 
Freshman Brennah Ross (Paoli, PA/Cyber Charter School) performed well in the 200-yard butterfly event. She posted a time of 2:13.63. Classmate Nicole Muha (Dunellen, NJ/Dunellen) placed fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.52.
 
In the 400-free relay, senior Traci Hofer (Milville, NJ/Milville), junior Jenny Zavoda (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), Ross, and Pierce finished third overall, touching the wall in 3:38.92. 

TCNJ jumps back into New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday, January 21 when they visit William Paterson University. They return to Packer Hall the following weekend to host Rowan University on Saturday, January 28.
