Ewing, NJ … The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team opened its 2012-13 season with an impressive triumph over Montclair State University 164-105 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Friday night in TCNJ's Aquatic Center.
Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) started off her senior campaign in stellar fashion winning the 100-yard breaststroke event in 1:06.12 and 100-yard freestyle in 53.71. She also led the 200-yard medley relay team to a first-place finish with a winning time of 1:54.38. Shangle was joined by senior

Maria Ciaralli (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury), and junior
Ashley Conroy (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan).
Conroy enjoyed an outstanding return to the waters as she also captured a pair of individual events. She touched the wall first in the 200-free in 1:57.93, followed by sophomore
Nicole Muha (Dunellen, NJ/Dunellen) who placed second in 2:02.56. Conroy won the 100-yard butterfly, registering the fastest time in 1:01.29. Muha also won the 200-breast in 2:29.36.
Junior
Hailey Growney (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) claimed two individual victories in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke event. She took top honors in the 100 with a posting of 1:02.62 and won the 200 in 2:14.76.
Down at the other end of the pool, senior
Danica Roskos (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) and junior
Sabrina Lucchesi (Columbus, NJ/Notre Dame) continued their brilliant careers with NCAA qualifying scores in their first meet. Roskos, who is the defending national champion in the 1-meter diving event, placed first with a score of 277.88. Lucchesi posted 249.08
The Lions return to NJAC competition tomorrow as they visit Ramapo College for a dual meet scheduled for 2 p.m.
