TCNJ swimmers earn 174-87 victory over Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ ... The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team picked up its second victory of the season as they defeated Ramapo College 174-87 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
 
Junior Hailey Growney (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) claimed two individual events for the second straight day buy winning the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:20.33. She returned to race in the 200-individual medley and touched the wall first in that event in 2:23.20.
 
The team of junior Ashley Conroy (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park), Brennah Ross (Paoli, PA/Cyber Charter School), and freshman Lauren Rothstein (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview) joined forces to win the 200-yard medley relay. They posted a time of 1:37.68 to seize that event.
 
Conroy also won the 200-yard backstroke event. She finished in 2:09.46 and was followed by teammate Kristyn Wikoff (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) who placed second with a time of 2:20.87.
 
The Lions swept the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly. Shangle raced to top honors with a finish of 1:03.44. Junior Amy Schurer (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) was runner-up with a time of 1:04.56 and Erin Perna (Lafayette, NJ) was third finishing in 1:06.68.
 
Senior Jenny Zavoda (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) won the 500-free with finish of 5:29.24. Classmate Samantha Parlow (Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) finished first in the 200-breast with a finish of 2:36.23, and freshman Eilish Devine (Oradell, NJ/River Dell) tapped the wall first in the 200-butterfly with a winning time of 2:23.30.
 
Devine combined with Rothstein, Zavoda, and freshman Sarah Richards (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) to win the 400-yard free relay with finish of 3:53.12.
 
The Lions will travel to Southern Connecticut University for a dual meet on Saturday, November 3.
