TCNJ races past the opposition at Division III Challenge

New York, NY – The College of New Jersey women's indoor track and field team ran away from the rest of the field at the Division III Challenge hosted by New York University. The Lions recorded 81.5 points finishing well ahead of the University of Rochester, which had 54.5 points. In all, 11 teams competed at the event held at the New York Armory.
 
The Lions dominated the 800 meters taking the top three places in the event. Freshman Katelyn Ary (Closter, NJ/NV Demerst) won the race with a time of 2:19.02, while sophomore Emily Kulcyk (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was second in 2:20.02. Freshman Liz Johnson Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) rounded out the trio of top finishers taking third in 2:20.85.
 
Another area TCNJ had a strong showing was in the triple jump as sophomore Erica Roberts (Newark, NJ/Science Park) had freshman Katheryn Karovic (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park) gained valuable team points finishing first and second. Roberts boasted an ECAC qualifying distance of 10.95 meters to win the event, while Karovic was second with a distance of 10.82 meters.
 
The Lions also won the 4x200 relay as the team of Roberts, Nicole Brown (Somerset, NJ/Franklin), Michelle Cascio (Washington, NJ/Westwood Regional), and Katie Johnston (Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) combined for a top of time of 1:47.48.
 
Johnston and Brown excelled in the 400 meters as Johnston placed second in 59.27 seconds and Brown was third in 1:01.62.
 
TCNJ earned a third-place finish in the distance medley relay as Anginelle Alabanza (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), Brown, Megan Boullianne (Washington Twp., NJ/Westwood), and Megan Stack (Hellertown, NJ/Saucon Valley) teamed up for a time of 12:53.02.
 
In the pole vault, Jackie Chester (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) tied for third as she cleared a height of 3.20 meters.
