NJAC release
Ewing, NJ … Four athletes from The College of New Jersey women's outdoor track and field program were named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference 2012 Women's All-Conference First Team. Seniors
Alyssa Bannon (Spotswood, NJ/Bishop Ahr), Katie Nestor (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands), junior
Cathy Goncalves (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson), and junior
Mary Chismar (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) were cited for their performances during the 2012 spring season.
Nestor was named to the First Team in the 800-meter event. She won that race at the N JAC championships and posted a season-best time of 2:16.49 at the Lions' Invitational. Nestor was also named to the Honorable Team in the 1500-meter event.
Bannon posted a season-best time of 4:38.14 in winning the 1500-meter event at the NJAC championships last Saturday. She received top conference honors for that event and also earned Honorable Mention honors in the 5000-meter event.
Goncalves enjoyed a dominant performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase event at the NJAC championships. She posted a winning time of 11:16.62 and was named to the First Team.
Chismar was cited for excellence in the shot put. She won that event at the conference championships with a season-best toss of 12.47 meters.
In addition, four Lions were named to the All-NJAC Second Team. Senior
Cassandra Valdes (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) was cited for the 800-meter event, sophomore
Megan Flynn (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) in the 5000-meter, junior
Rachel Morris (Marlboro, NJ/Colts Neck) in the 10,000meter, and sophomore
Jackie Chester (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) in the pole vault event.
Freshman
Jillian Manzo (West Babylon, NY/North Babylon) was also named to the Honorable Mention squad in the 10,000-meter run along with sophomore
Emily Kulcyk (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) in the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore
Erica Roberts (Newark, NJ/Science Park) in the triple jump, and
Emily Skalko (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) in the high jump.
