TCNJ defeats Rowan to capture fifth straight championship

 Glassboro, NJ … The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team clinched its fifth straight New Jersey Athletic Conference title as they defeated Rowan University 185-115 in Glassboro, NJ.
 
The Lions remain perfect this season with an overall record of 6-0 and 4-0 in conference meets.
 
Establishing a lead from the start, junior Ashley Conroy (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), sophomore Nicole Muha  (Dunnellen, NJ/Dunnellen), sophomore Brennah Ross (Paoli, Pa/Cyber Charter School), and senior Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) took first in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:1.75.
 
Conroy's outstanding performance continued as she registered e a pair of top honors in the 100-backstroke, posting a time of 1:00.47 and 100-freestyle with a finish of 54.7 . Senior Samantha Parlow (Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) was runner up finisher in the 100-free, touching the wall in 1:03.47.
 
Ross claimed a win in the 100-butterfly finishing with two hands on the wall in 1:00.29.  Junior Maria Ciaralli (Morrisville, NJ/Pennsbury) shortly followed defeating her Rowan competitor for second place  with a time of 1:04.25.  Ross was also runner-up finisher in the 200-free coming in at 2:00.40.
 
Junior Hailey Growney (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) and Kristyn Wikoff (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) shined in the 200-back with Growney's winning time of 2:14.63 and Wikoff posting 2:16.70.
 
Colleting a win in the 500-free, senior Jenny Zavoda (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) topped the field of competitors with a time of 5:19.27.
 
In diving competition, senior Danica Roskos (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) and junior Sabrina Lucchesi (Columbus, NJ/Notre Dame) continued their acrobatic excellence this season. Roskos placed first in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 304.42. Lucchesi posted 290.02. Roskos and Lucchesi also finished one-two in the 1-meter, posting scores of 301.35 and 275.92.
 
The Lions return home on Sunday, January 27 for their final meet of the season against sixth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology.  The event, which is also senior meet for the veteran swimmers and divers, is scheduled to start at 2 .m. in TCNJ's Aquatic Center.
