Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team suffered its first defeat of the season, dropping a tightly contested battle to sixth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology 148-140 in TCNJ's Aquatic Center.

The Lions, who entered the meet with a perfect 6-0 mark and ranked ninth, put up a fight but came up just short in their final dual meet of the season. The Ducks improved to 3-1.

Senior Kayleigh Shangle (Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park) put forth a spectacular effort in her final home meet, winning three individual events and contributing a relay win. Shangle did all she could claiming the 100-breast, 50-free, and 200-breast before swimming a leg in the 400-free relay victory. In the 200-breast, she defeated defending national champion Brittany Geyer, posting a winning time of 2:25.13.

Junior Ashley Conroy (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) was also part of that 400-free relay win and took first in the 200-backstroke event with a time of 2:10.86. She earned valuable points in the 100-back with a runner-up finish of 59.50.

Senior Danica Roskos (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) approached her own program record in the 1-meter diving competition, winning that event with a score of 317.63. Junior Sabrina Lucchesi (Columbus, NJ/Notre Dame) was runner-up with a tally of 294.53. Roskos was also two points away from her own record in the 3-meter dive. She won that event, posting 343.88 followed by Lucchesi at 300.60.

Senior Samantha Parlow (Brick, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and classmate Jenny Zavoda (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) also performed well for the Lions. Zavoda joined Conroy, Shangle, and sophomore Brennah Ross (Paoli, Pa/Cyber Charter School) in the 400-free relay win in 3:37.69.

The Lions will turn to training the next couple week before they compete at the 2013 Metropolitn Conference Championships beginning Friday, February 15 at Rutgers University.
