The College of New Jersey women's swimming opened its 2013-14 season in exciting fashion as they topped with Montclair State University 119-111.

Lauren Rothstein (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview), and junior
Summer Thomas (North Plainfield, NJ/Metuchen) teamed up to win the 400-freestyle relay in 3:47.05 after the final gun to win the meet. It marked the 21
st straight New Jersey Athletic Conference win for the Lions (1-0) as they cleared the first hurdle en route to their sixth consecutive conference title.
Thomas had a big night as she also placed first in the 100-free and 200-free. She posted a time of 56.51 in the 100 and 2:01.55 to win the 200.
Strollo also performed well in her first collegiate meet. She touched the wall first in the 100-breastroke with a finish of 1:02.68 and also earned valuable points by placing second in the 1000-free with a time of 11:19.23.
Junior
Brennah Ross (Paoli, PA/PA Cyber Charter School) took top honors in the 50-free with a clocking of 25.52. Senior
Nina Sabatini (Massapequa, NJ/Massapequa) placed third in that event with a time of 27.00.
In the 200-individual medley, senior
Amy Schurer (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) finished runner-up, posting a finish of 2:19.24. She also placed second in the 100-butterfly in 1:03.63.
On the diving board, sophomore
Edith Duggan (Aberdeen, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) placed first in the 1- and 3-meter events. She registered scores of 162.75 and 278.40.
TCNJ returns to campus for its home opener tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. They will host conference foe Ramapo College in TCNJ's Aquatic Center.
