Ewing, NJ ... The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team delivered a convincing victory in its home opener as they defeated Ramapo College 164.5-92.5 on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions (2-0) received exceptional efforts from seniors
Ashley Conroy (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and
Amy Schurer (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown). Conroy led off the 400-medley relay team that captured the event in 4:15.96. She also won the 200-backstroke event in 2:13.02 and the 100-butterfly in 1:01.32.
Schurer joined Conroy, senior
Kelsey Sumple (Windsor, CT/Northwest Catholic), and junior
Brennah Ross (Paoli, PA/PA Cyber Charter School) in the opening relay win. She also took top honors in the 200-butterfly with a winning time of 2:20.49 and the 200-breaststroke event in 2:38.29. Ross captured the 100-free in 54.64.
Senior
Haley Growney (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) and freshman
Brenna Strollo (Long Branch, NJ/Biotechnology) finished one-two in the 100-back. Growney touched the wall in 1:01.70, while Strollo posted a finish of 1:07.62. Strollo also won the 200-individual medley in 2:17.86 and placed second in the 200-back behind Conroy in 2:16.27.
In the distance free events, sophomore
Eilish Devine (Oradell, NJ/River Dell) won the 1000-yard in 11:31.44, while junior
Summer Thomas (North Plainfield, NJ/Metuchen) posted the fastest time in the 500- in 5:26.81.
The Lions remain at home next Saturday, facing one of their toughest dual meet opponents of the season. Southern Connecticut University will visit TCNJ's Aquatic Center at 2 p.m. on November 2.
