Meet results
Ewing, NJ … Trailing with two event remaining on the meet schedule, The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team rose to the occasion as they defeated Southern Connecticut State University 157-131 in TCNJ's Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions (3-0) notched first-place finishes in the 200-individual medley and 400-free relay to capture their third straight. The Owls suffered their first setback of the season.
Senior
Amy Schurer (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) and junior
Summer Thomas (North Plainfield, NJ/Metuchen) placed first and second in the 200-IM to garner 13 points. In the final event, sophomore
Lauren Rothstein (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview), junior
Brennah Ross (Paoli, PA/PA Cyber Charter School), senior
Michelle Sanders (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) and senior
Ashley Conroy (Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) combined to win the 400-free relay in 3:43.85 to secure the come-from-behind victory.
In the distance free events, sophomore
Eilish Devine (Oradell, NJ/River Dell) won the 1000-yard in 11:12.95 and Thomas took top honors in 500-free in 5:28.83. Devine placed second in that same event in 5:31.19.
Conroy and freshman
Brenna Strollo (Long Branch, NJ/Biotechnology) took care of the backstroke races. Conroy won the 100-back in 1:00.53, while senior
Hailey Growney (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) placed second. Strollo claimed the 200-back in 2:12.88 with Growney taking second in 2:12.92.
Ross also placed first in the 50-free in 24.83 and second 100-butterfly in 1:01.33.
The Lions take the next week off before traveling to New York University for a dual on November 16 at 1 p.m.
