Box Score

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team knocked Kean University from the ranks of the unbeaten as the Lions scored the game's only goal in the opening half for a 1-0 victory on Tuesday.

TCNJ, which earlier in the day moved up a spot to 11th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III poll, improved to 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference and 6-1 overall. The Lions have now won six straight games.

The loss was the first of the season for the Cougars, who opened the season with eight consecutive victories. Kean is 1-1 in conference play.

The Lions netted the only goal of the contest in the opening half when junior Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) netted her fifth of the season. Healy fired a shot that was stopped by Kean goalie Katie DiCarlo (Shamong, NJ/Seneca), but the Lion forward quickly gathered the rebound and slipped into the net for a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, TCNJ had a great chance to double its advantage on a penalty corner when Erin Waller (Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) laced s shot from just inside the top of the circle. The shot got past DiCarlo, but Marissa Robinson (Bear, DE/William Penn) made a nice defensive save to keep it a one-goal game. That play came with just under 10 minutes left in regulation.

Junior goalie Amanda Krause (Richboro, PA/Council Rock North) did not face a shot for the Lions in recording her third straight shutout.

The Lions dominated the stat sheet holding a 22-1 edge in shots and 19-1 in penalty corners.

DiCarlo had a nice game for Kean with 12 saves.

TCNJ faces another tough test on Saturday, September 28 hosting third-ranked Salisbury University at 5 p.m., while the Cougars play on Friday at Mercy College in a 4 p.m. start
