Meet resultsBy Ashley McKenna '15Mahwah, NJ … The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team battled its way to a season-opening victory as they defeated Ramapo College 152-110 in Ramapo's Bradley Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions (1-0) captured their 25
th consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference win since the league reinstated swimming and diving as a conference sport in 2008-09. TCNJ has captured all six NJAC titles since that time.
Brenna Strollo (Long Branch, NJ/Biotechnology) began her sophomore campaign in impressive fashion in the 100-yard backstroke, collecting the women's first win at 1:02:06. Strollo also placed first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.00, and took top honors in the 200-yard IM at 2:15.43 Strollo was the NJAC Co-Rookie of the Year in 2013-14.
Senior
Summer Thomas (North Plainfield, NJ/Metuchen) registered a win in the 500-yard freestyle with a finish of 5:33.18. Classmate
Emily Rothstein (Mullica Hill, NJ / Cleaview Regional) placed runner-up in the event with a time of 5:44.95.
Thomas also placed second 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 55.66.
Senior
Brennah Ross (Paoli, PA/PA Cyber Charter School) placed both hands on the wall in the 100-yard butterfly for a first-place finish. She completed the race in 1:00.61.
Freshman
Marta Lawler (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) enjoyed an impressive debut to her collegiate career. She posted first-place finishes in the 100- and 200-breaststroke, along with a runner-up finish in the 200-IM.
Sophomore
Colleen Magley (Brick, NJ / Monsignor Donovan HS), freshman
Allison Huber (South Plainfield, NJ / South Plainfield) , junior
Lauren Rothstein (Mullica Hill, NJ / Clearview), and senior
Summer Thomas (North Plainfield, NJ/Metuchen) placed first in the 400-yard freestyle relay, defeating all other competitors with a time of 3:49.03.
The Lions return to dual meet action next Friday, October 24
th in their home opener against Montclair State University at 5:00 p.m. in the TCNJ's Aquatic Center.Â
