Montclair, NJ... The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team got off to a great start for the 2015-16 season as they posted a 196-97 win at Montclair State University on Friday.

The Lions had several highlights in the meet as they set two pool records and had a pair of divers already earn preliminary NCAA qualifying marks.

Junior Sarah Grassi (Oaklyn, NJ/Camden Catholic) and sophomore Hannah Raymond (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) competed in two one-meter events with the first consisting of five dives and the second six. The scores were totaled giving them their initial marks to qualify for the NCAA Regional Diving Meet. Raymond finished with 460.15 points and Grassi totaled 420.40. They must meet these scores at least once more during the season to officially qualify.

The 400-freestyle relay team of Maddie Hynoski (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon), Lauren Rothstein (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview), Ali Huber (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and Emily Rothstein (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview) set a new pool record with a swift time of 3:36.98.

Junior Brenna Strollo (Long Branch, NJ/Biotechnology) added another pool mark in the 100-yard backstroke winning the race with a time of 1:01.48.

The trio of Marta Lawler (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), Lindsay Rippey (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and Madeleine Clements (Haddon Heights, NJ/Bishop Eustace) excelled in the breaststroke events as they finished first through third in both the 100 and 200 events.

In addition to win in the 400 free relay, Lauren Rothstein added victories in the 200 medley relay, 50 free and 100 free to win all four races she swam in.

Next up for the Lions is the home opener on Saturday, October 31 against NCAA Division II Southern Connecticut State University. That dual meet gets underway at 2 p.m.
