Meet ResultsThe College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team capped another perfect record against New Jersey Athletic Conference opponents with a 160-80 victory over William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions impressed with a sweep in the 200 yard freestyle, with senior
Eilish Devine (Oradell, NJ / River Dell Regional), freshman
Gabi Denicola (Oradell, NJ / River Dell Regional) and senior
Melissa Haley (Manasquan, NJ / Manasquan) touching the wall in first, second and third at 2:07.41, 2:08.37 and 2:12.16, respectively.
Devine later took top honors again in the 500 yard freestyle at 5:38.57. TCNJ also swept that event with sophomore
Marta Lawler (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) and
Hailey Thayer (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) placing into second and third, clocking in at 5:39.40 and 5:41.16.
In the 400 yard medley relay, the Lions narrowly edged out the Pioneers as the team of sophomores
Robin Lukens (Mantua, NJ / Clearview Regional),
Jill Galindo (Millstone Township, NJ / Allentown),
Madeleine Clements (Haddon Heights, NJ / Bishop Eustace), and
Emily Rothstein (Mullica Hill, NJ / Clearview) recorded a time of 4:22.49.
Lukens and Rothstein also contributed to a first-place win in the 400 yard freestyle relay along with Lawler and sophomore
Cassidy Bergeron (Belle Mead, NJ / Montgomery), hitting a time of 3:55.91.
Bergeron had a stellar showing in the pool, topping the competition in the 1,000 yard freestyle at 12:10.22 and the 100 yard freestyle in 59.82. Galindo also held her own in the 100 yard butterfly, winning with a decisive 1:06.58 and Rothstein took first in the 50 yard freestyle at 26.17.
NJAC Diver of the Week, junior
Sarah Grassi (Oaklyn, NJ / Camden Catholic), continued her dominant reign on the diving board with a first place in the 1-meter event with a score of 297.52.
The Lions now enter post-season action at the Metropolitan Conference Championships at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. on the weekend of Friday, Feb. 19-21.
