MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The College of New Jersey women's swimming and diving team topped a conference rival in Montclair State 176.5 to 123.5 Saturday afternoon. The Lions, who were picked to finish behind the Red Hawks in the preseason coaches poll, improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC. MSU dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in conference meets.

Montclair State got the early lead in the meet, out-touching the Lions in the 200-Medley Relay by nine hundredths of a second.
Annie Menninger got the Lions a victory in the 1,000-Free with a time of 11:12.43.

The Red Hawks got a victory in the 200-Free, it was Cameron Carraza getting out-touched by three tenths. The Lions did secure third and fourth with
Melanie Fosko and Meg Healey.
Zoe Chan would put the Lions back in the win column in the 100-Back with a swim of 1:01.12.

The 100-Breast was the most exciting swim of the day. Just six hundredths separated first from third as Menninger finished in 1:10.01 and out-touched
Chiara Mennonna by one hundredth who was five hundredths ahead of the top Montclair swimmer.

Kori Jelinek and
Nicki Meskinwent one-two in the 200-fly with times of 2:19.07 and 2:20.09.
Gabi Valladares earned a victory in the 1-meter with a score of 210.55.

MSU heated up with wins in the 100-Free, 200-Back, and 200-Breast out of the break. Menninger would then claim her second distance freestyle of the day, winning the 500 in 5:29.37.

Chan then provided the biggest swim of the day, breaking the Montclair State pool record with a swim of 57.54 in the 100-fly.

Valladares completed the diving sweep with a score of 168.25 on the 1-meter.

Chan crushed the field in the 200-IM, swimming 2:13.62, over seven seconds faster than the closest competitor.

The Lions closed out the meet by sweeping the 400-Free Relay.

Shannon Hesse,
Elise Fraser, and
Rachel Hannah combined for the top time of 3:48.77.

The Lions return to action Friday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. when they host Southern Connecticut State.
