EWING, N.J. – The regular season for basketball has concluded, and now the TCNJ women's and men's teams will shift their focus to the postseason. Both squads will host games in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
The TCNJ women's basketball team will host William Paterson in the first round on Feb. 22. Game time in Packer Hall is set for 1:00 p.m. The regular-season series between the Lions and Pioneers was a split. TCNJ took the first game by a 55-45 final score, before William Paterson drew even in the regular-season finale, 56-43.
Shannon Devitt led TCNJ with a double-double in game one of the series. The junior forward recorded 23 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocked shots. TCNJ's defense put the clamps on William Paterson's offense and held the Pioneers to just 25% (18-of-72) shooting from the field.
In game two, Brianna Brooks led the efforts for William Paterson with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Jen Byrne scored 14 points to lead TCNJ. The Lions are the No. 4 seed, while the Pioneers hold the No. 5 seed. The winner will face the No. 1 seed in Rowan on Feb. 25. This has been an evenly-matched series of late. The Lions hold an 8-5 record against William Paterson since the 2014-15 season.
The TCNJ men's basketball team earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the first time since 1997-98. TCNJ awaits the winner of Rutgers-Newark and New Jersey City. The Lions will host a semifinal at home on Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m. The Scarlet Raiders and Gothic Knights will play on Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
The Lions swept the season series against both Rutgers-Newark and New Jersey City.
Against Rutgers-Newark, the Lions pulled out a double overtime win in game one, 75-69.

Travis Jocelyn paved the way for TCNJ with 14 points each. The Lions outscored the Scarlet Raiders, 10-4, in the second overtime. In the next matchup, TCNJ exploded in the second half to take a 74-46 victory. The Lions outscored Rutgers-Newark by a 47-18 margin in the second. Jocelyn tallied a career-high 25 points, while
Randall Walko added 23.
TCNJ defeated New Jersey City, 62-55, in the first matchup. Walko led the charge with 27 points as the Lions held off a late Gothic Knight rally. The Lions used another impressive second half to down New Jersey City in game two, 86-66. Walko dropped a game-high 31 points, and the Lions took control of the game with a 15-4 run in the second half.
Ticket prices for all NJAC Championship Tournament games are $5.00 for adults; $2.00 for children, students, and senior citizens.
