EWING, N.J. – TCNJ Executive Director of Athletics Amanda DeMartino announced Tuesday the promotion of
Liz Shatkus (Masucci) to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Facilities & Operations and Senior Woman Administrator, retroactive to August 15.
Shatkus joined TCNJ Athletics in April 2018 as Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities and Event Planning after nearly seven years at Villanova University, finishing her tenure there as Director of Facilities and Operations.
"Liz has played a tremendous role in the growth and success of our department these past three years," DeMartino said. "She is passionate about our mission to provide the best student-athlete experience possible and does an excellent job leading a hardworking team that always ensures our facilities and equipment operations are running seamlessly."
"I would like to thank Sean Stallings and Amanda DeMartino for this opportunity," Shatkus said. "I am fortunate to work alongside great staff and coaches at TCNJ. I look forward to representing the department in this new role and contributing to the continued success of the student-athletes and coaches."
Shatkus has been critical in leading efforts to upgrade athletics facilities while improving game and facilities operations. She led the installation of new FieldTurf Core system at Lions Stadium, making TCNJ just the second college in New Jersey to use the surface, following SHI Stadium, home of Rutgers football. The surface is also prominently used in NFL stadiums, including Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., and Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
The pool in the TCNJ Aquatic Center has also went through a significant transformation under Shatkus. It now has a new deck along with new filtration and drainage systems. A new timing system for TCNJ varsity swimming meets has also been installed.
At both of those sites, Shatkus led the design and installation of rebranded signage and windscreens to modernize the look of those facilities. Currently, Shatkus is leading the installation of a new turf surface at the field hockey and lacrosse complex while focusing her branding efforts on the baseball and softball facilities.
In addition to her current responsibilities of daily facility operations and game operations, Shatkus will take on an expanded leadership role within the department. Additional responsibilities include sport oversight, budget management, ticketing and concessions while also serving as tournament manager for NCAA and NJAC Championships hosted by TCNJ.
"One of my favorite things about Liz is that she has gotten know so many of our student-athletes and coaches on a personal level, and her commitment to our programs is palpable," said
Chessie Jackson, head women's basketball coach. "She is present at almost every TCNJ contest, and she is always the first person I hear from after a tough loss with a supportive, 'You'll get 'em next time.'"
In her role as Senior Woman Administrator (SWA), Shatkus will also serve as a liason to the NJAC and as TCNJ's second NJAC voting board member. She will also assist in the management of the department's 20 varsity sports and 525 student-athletes. She will also continue to oversee the majority of the student workforce in TCNJ Athletics.
"Liz has been an excellent addition to TCNJ Athletics since her arrival," said head wrestling coach Joe Galante. "She is extremely hardworking and diligent. There is no one more deserving of a promotion."
Her leadership has also extended across campus. Currently, her area is leading the institutional accumulation and distribution of personal protective equipment in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The process for collecting and distributing PPE will be handed off to campus building services for continued implementation throughout TCNJ.
"I'm thrilled that her responsibilities will be expanding and that she will be taking on a greater leadership role within the department," DeMartino said. "She's very deserving of this promotion, and I'm looking forward to this next chapter of TCNJ Athletics."
