NEW YORK – Andrew Thompson and
James McChesney combined for three individual victories and a first-place relay to lead the No. 15 TCNJ men's swimming team in a 200-98 loss at No. 8 NYU on Saturday.
With some of the nation's top swimmers on display, Thompson and McChesney made their presence felt immediately. They joined
Jonah Herring and
Ryan VanDeVeen to post a time of 3:28.82 in the 400 medley relay, good for first place and the seventh-best mark in Division III.
Thompson also finished first in the 100 fly (51.17) as well as the 200 free (1:43.73), where he now owns a top-25 time in the nation.
McChesney, for his part, won the 100 free in 46.78, good for 25
th in the country. The reigning NJAC swimmer of the week was also runner-up in the 50 free, where he clocked a season-best 21.27.
Dixon Kahler was fourth in that event at 22.06, one hundredth of a second off his season standard.
Lukas Blach impressed in the 1650 free, where his time of 16:23.95 stands as the 12
th-fastest in the nation. The rookie also placed fourth in the 500 free with a personal-best 4:46.10, just ahead of McChesney's 4:46.86.
Blach also joined Kahler,
Matt Watts, and Thompson to post the second-best time in the 400 free relay at 3:10.73.
Herring finished runner-up in the 100 back (53.53) and third in the 200 back (1:57.81), notching a new PR in both events.
Ryan Heerema placed fourth in the former at 54.46.
VanDeVeen placed third in the 200 breast (2:11.76) and fourth in the 100 breast (1:00.46), where
Shawn Kushner took fifth (1:01.11).
Conrad Hoody notched a season-best 4:16.28 to lead the Lions in the 400 IM, while
Bryan Tran registered a fourth-place effort in the 200 fly (2:01.57).
Ethan Weiss was just off his season standards in the 1-meter dive (270.08) and 3-meter dive (266.48).
The Lions have two weeks off before heading to Merchant Marine for an invitational on November 20.
