Men's Swimming and Diving Nabs Weekly Awards

PITMAN, N.J. – The TCNJ men's swimming and diving team swept the NJAC's weekly awards for the first week of the 2020-21 season as announced by the conference on Monday. Patrick Sullivan, Jay Soukup, and James McChesney were named NJAC Swimmer of the Week, NJAC Diver of the Week, and NJAC Rookie of the Week respectively.
 
Sullivan opened the Lions' virtual meet by swimming the breast stroke for the Lions winning 200-medley relay team, then swept the breast events to help TCNJ to the victory over William Paterson. His time in the 50-breast of 26.94 ranks first in the NJAC and 10th nationally this season. His time in the 100-breast of 58.59 ranks first in the NJAC and 15th nationally this season. TCNJ's time of 1:32.86 in the 200-medley relay ranks first in the NJAC and fifth nationally. It is the first weekly award of Sullivan's career.
 
Soukup earned his 10th career weekly NJAC honor after his performance at the virtual meet. Soukup's score of 272.17 in the 1-meter ranks first in the NJAC and eighth nationally this season. His score in the 3-meter of 237.67 ranks 14th nationally and first in the NJAC.
 
McChesney won all four of his events in his first collegiate meet. The freshman was a part of the 200-medley relay team that ranks first in the NJAC and fifth nationally and the 200-free relay that tops the NJAC and ranks eighth nationally. Individually, he ranks first in the NJAC and 16th nationally among all swimmers in the 200-free with a time of 1:43.17 and first in the NJAC and 21st nationally among all swimmers in the 100-free with a time of 46.83.
 
The Lions' season continues with a virtual meet against Ramapo on Saturday.
