NJAC Release

PITMAN, N.J. –
The NJAC announced its major award winners and all-conference teams for the 2021 men's basketball season on Wednesday. The honors were based on voting from the league's head coaches.

Travis Jocelyn was named NJAC Pony Wilson Player of the Year as well as First Team All-NJAC. Jocelyn put forth a superb senior season for the Lions. He averaged 20.9 points per game to lead the conference and 7.1 rebounds per game to rank third in the league. The senior forward shot 46.3% from the field to rank second in the NJAC and 34% from three-point range, which was good for third in the conference.

"As a program, we could not be prouder of our captain, Travis Jocelyn, for winning NJAC Player of the Year," said TCNJ head coach Matt Goldsmith. "During this past year, he never wavered from his commitment to our program, and his play demonstrated that every time he stepped onto the court. He earned this award through 'sweat equity.' Travis has worked for everything he has achieved throughout the past four years, and we are so happy for him. Well-deserved!"

This marks the second-straight year that the Lions have won the NJAC Pony Wilson Player of the Year award. Randall Walko took home the honors in 2020. Prior to that, Derick Grant in 2005 was the last Lion to be named NJAC Pony Wilson Player of the Year. Additionally, Jocelyn was a First Team All-NJAC honoree a season ago.

P.J. Ringel was named Second Team All-NJAC. He enjoyed a strong senior season as the Lions' point guard. A constant stat-sheet stuffer, Ringel averaged 11.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game. He is the NJAC's leader in assists, and he also ranks seventh in all of NCAA Division III in that category. Ringel was also active on the defensive end with an average of 2.8 steals per game to finish second in the NJAC. He placed second in the conference in rebounding as well. Ringel finishes his career ranked third in TCNJ history in assists with 294.

"I am so happy that P.J. earned Second Team All-NJAC this season," Goldsmith said. "He has worked so hard for the past four years without much fanfare or recognition for his play. He earned that Second Team spot this year. He played with poise and confidence and was a huge reason for our 7-1 performance this season. As a program, we are so proud of our captain, P.J. Ringel!"

Danny Bodine earned an All-NJAC Honorable Mention. Bodine had an efficient junior season, averaging 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. A strong defensive presence, Bodine blocked 21 shots which led the NJAC. His average of 2.6 rejections per game also ranks eighth in the nation.

"We have been telling Danny that if he continues to work hard, he will be one of the best players in the country," said Goldsmith. "Earning an All-NJAC Honorable Mention this season shows that he is moving towards achieving all of his goals. He works as hard as anyone in our program, and getting recognized by the conference shows that the other teams in the NJAC have noticed his hard work as well. This is only the beginning for Danny!"

The Lions posted a 7-1 record in the abbreviated 2021 season.
