Women's Track and Field Captures NJAC Championship for First Time Since 2014

MAHWAH, N.J. – The TCNJ women's track and field team cruised to its first NJAC Championship since the 2014 season on Saturday, scoring 309.5 team points, 120 points more than second-place Stockton.
 
TCNJ had strong performances all over the track. Sam Gorman pulled off the double, winning the 100-meters in 12.65 and the 200-meters in 25.44.
 
In the 400-meters, the Lions ran one-two-three-four. Amanda Demko, Megan Gasnick, Dana DeLuca, and Kim Lewis crushed the field in the event. Demko's winning time of 57.91 was over three second ahead of the nearest competitor from another team.
 
Ali Uhl won the 800-meters with a time of 2:18.06, over four seconds ahead of second place. Cassidy Quinn posted a winning time of 18:29.70 in the 5,000-meters.
 
Salini Iyer was second in the 1,500-meters, stopping the clock at 5:05.53. Brittany Schofield ran second in the 10,000-meters, finishing with a time of 40:55.58.
 
Annette Wanjiku was second in the 100-hurdles, crossing the line at 15.02. Her time ranks 36th in the nation this year.
 
In the 400-hurdles, Victoria Purritano was second, stopping the clock at 1:08.18. Emily Prendergast finished third in the 3,000-steeplechase with a time of 12:13.44.
 
Ashlyn Maclure, Maria Grill, Wanjiku, and Valandra Riggins won the 4x100-relay with a combined time of 49.52. DeLuca, Emily Hirsch, Victoria Vricella, and Lewis won the 4x400-relay, stopping the clock at 4:07.64.
 
In the field, Kassidy Mulryne won the long jump with a leap of 5.26 meters, then cleared the bar at 1.55 meters in the high jump for third.
 
Zoe Iovino won the triple jump with a mark of 10.37-meters, edging out teammate Meghan Macaluso by just two centimeters.
 
Edith Gonzalez was 11th in the shot put with a throw of 9.72 meters. Jean Walter took eighth in the discus with a toss of 32.66 meters and the hammer with a throw of 37.80 meters.
 
Nicole Lester finished third in the pole vault with a leap of 3.35 meters. Amanda Murillo was second in the javelin with a mark of 38.36 meters.
 
TCNJ returns to action on Thursday at home when the team hosts the TCNJ Last Chance Meet.
